Here is an interesting link to a ranking of all 50 states by "intelligence."
The methodology is based solely on metrics of public school performance or expenditures per student. It would seem that this might skew the data somewhat and it makes me wonder if this is less of a barometer of "intelligence by state" and more of a yardstick for which states are best for families with school age children as two of the 21 factors are Public Elementary and Secondary School Revenue per $1,000 Personal Income and Percent of Public Elementary and Secondary School Current Expenditures used for Instruction.
Alright, enough for the serious portion of the post. Now I'd just like to point out that my brother lives in the dumbest state in the union, but if the District of Columbia were included in the list Arizona might not hold such a dubious honor.
Still if this is correct you might want to move to a "Top 25" smart state lest your great-great-great-great-grandson become a Morlock.
Only Guy Pearce or, possibly Kevin Costner, can save us.

I'm currently in North Carolina, but that doesn't mean that I don't have the time to defend (or not defend) the alleged stupidity of the current state in which I reside. I point you to this story in the Arizona Republic

about the smartest state study. The Republic ran a large headline above the fold today proclaiming Arizona the "dumbest" state (unfortunately, none of the words were spelled wrong, which would have made for some excellent humor). However, as you can see, the story takes aim at the problems with the study, rather than really being about what the headline said. It was a nice way to keep local people happy, but also have a salacious headline that should grab readers (well, at least those smart enough to read and smart enough to use a coin-operated newspaper box). I enjoyed the state superintendent using the word "stupidest" in his quote as well.
Thanks for the links in this post. I really liked the Radar piece, which I had never read before. Few things are better than reading good writing making fun of politicians. I also enjoyed the graphic, your design skills are nonparaleil.
